Gurung heritage Trek

The Gurung Heritage Trekking Trail (GHTT) is a compelling new trekking option, providing a 7-10 day adventure that complements the shortened Annapurna Circuit due to road expansion. This trail is historically significant as it is believed to be the migration route of the Gurung people from their ancestral lands in Gandaki province to present-day Kaski, Lamjung, and other areas. Local and international studies support this migration theory. Traditional Gurung oral history mentions key locations along this trail, such as Krapudanda, Kwholasonthar, Thurju, Namun Laa, and Timang, which are significant in their final post-death ritual, “Arghu.”
Additionally, the GHTT intersects with the historical salt trade route, once used to transport salt from Manang Bhot to Kaski and Lamjung. Ruins of settlements and resting places along this route highlight its historical importance.
The Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs’ Association of Nepal (GTEAN) explored the trail from June 3-12, 2024. The team, including GTEAN officials, researchers, trail planners, engineers, and communication experts, identified the GHTT as a promising trekking venture
